The Reaper and the Flowers

There is a Reaper, whose name is Death,
And, with his sickle keen,
He reaps the bearded grain at a breath,
And the flowers that grow between.

“Shall I have naught that is fair?” Saith he;
“Having naught but the bearded grain?
Though the breath of these flowers is sweet to me,
I will give them all back again,”

He gazed at the flowers with tearful eye,
He kissed their drooping leaves;
It was for the Lord of Paradise
He bound them in his sheaves.

“My Lord has need of these flowerets gay,”
The Reaper said, and smiled:
“Dear tokens of the earth are they,
Where he was once a child.”

“They shall all bloom in fields of light,
Transplanted by my care,
And saints, upon their garments white,
These sacred blossoms wear.”

And the mother gave, in tears and pain,
The flowers she most did love:
She knew she should find them all again
In the fields of light above.

O, not in cruelty, not in wrath,
The Reaper came that day;
‘Twas an angel visited the green earth,
And took the flowers away.

A funereal bouquet laid on cemetery grass: longiflorum lilies, white rose, chrysanthemum, and carnation.

In the Imp: This is elegantly somber flowers.
On Me: It’s so pretty in the vial, but on it’s jumbling wildly. Going to age it and try later.
On My Son: Pass due to the all-flower.

Twilight

An enigmatic, otherworldly scent, brimming with power and mystery.

Lavender and jasmine, with a touch of glowing honeysuckle.

In the Imp: Astringent Lavender, smoothed by the Jasmine and Honeysuckle.
On Me: Very pretty, all three balanced nicely. This is a date-night scent.
On My Son: Why did I try it? Right. Lavender. Too screechy for my head, I need to take this one off now.

Wings of Azrael

Azrael is the Angel of Death, marked as the last being to die in the Apocalypse. Though a harbinger of doom, his duties are an act of mercy: he curtails human life before world-weariness and despair destroys our spirits. Warm myrrh swirled with a bittersweet blend of violet, Lily of the Valley, juniper, cypess and cajeput.

In the Imp: Evergreen, Resinous, Woodsy.
On Me: Resinous and Woodsy, with lovely hints of Lily-of-the-Valley and Violet drifting through.
On My Son: Wow, I thought with your favourite garden flower in there it was going to be screechy for certain. It’s kind of nice.

Zombi

Dried roses, rose leaf, Spanish moss, oakmoss and deep brown earth.

In the Imp: Roses and Dirt. Yes!
On Me: MLP Butt rose strikes again! Nooooo! It smells like a bunch of little kids took said MLP out into a mud puddle after it rained and played with them in it. Muddy scented vinyl ponies.
On My Son: Very heavy on garden dirt and mossy bits. Not a lot of rose. I like it.

That’s it for Ars Moriendi.  Next up is Bewitching Brews
